Our SV movie group watched Celine Song's award winning first film "Past Lives"  last year: About Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, are abruptly separated after Nora's family emigrated from South Korea. Decades later, they are reunited for one fateful week as they confront destiny, love and the choices that make a life.

In Celine Songs new film, Materialists, she continues her exploration of intimacy, identity, and modern relationships.  This time, rooted in NYC affluent dating scene curated by paid matchmakers.  The film explores the challenges of finding deep connection when lifestyle and social pressure are influencing the choice of picking the 'right' life partner.  

Our main character, successful matchmaker Lucy Mason works at Adore, a high end matchmaking company in New York City. A voluntarily celibate "eternal bachelorette", she maintains she will either die alone or marry someone wealthy. Despite her professional success, Lucy grows frustrated with her clients' increasingly unrealistic standards.  Lucy's life stays intertwined with an earlier boyfriend, who is a cater-waiter, and Lucy finds herself with a big decision to make.
