Specialist Team (FAST): “Avoiding Scams, Fraud, and Identify Theft”
and Sausalito Police: “Latest on Phone and Internet Scams”
Older Adults can find themselves the victims of abuse. Our speakers, Deborah Stephensen and Chris Asimos of FAST (Marin Financial Abuse Specialist Team) will enlighten and educate us on how to protect ourselves from the daily barrage of financial scams we must be aware and alert to. A 2015 study asserts that financial elder abuse costs $36.5 billion annually. In Marin County alone, financial abuse cases make up 35% of all referrals to Adult Protective Services. Nationwide, it's estimated that only 1 in 10 cases is ever reported.
A representative from the Sausalito Police Department will also gives us an update on the latest phone and internet scams.
