SV Film Group hosts, Rev. Paul Mowry and our own 'Chef' Joey both graduated from NYU Film School and love finding interesting films to watch and discuss as a group.  The group meets downstairs in the Church Hall.  Parking is difficult so be sure to plan to walk or request a ride from Sausalito Village.

This Month:  Eternity

Eternity is a funny, tender afterlife romantic comedy starring Elizabeth Olsen as Joan, a woman given one week after death to choose where — and with whom — she will spend forever. Waiting for her are Larry, the husband with whom she built a long life, played by Miles Teller, and Luke, her first love, played by Callum Turner. The setup gives the film plenty of room for playful, slightly screwball humor, especially in its imagined afterlife “options,” while still keeping the story warm, wistful, and deeply human. 

With its elegant love triangle, quick wit, and bittersweet charm, Eternity feels like a modern nod to the polished romantic comedies of the 1940s — the kind of movie that might have smiled in the direction of Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and, yes, Audrey Hepburn’s luminous romantic grace. Beneath the comedy is a poignant meditation on love and death:  As the film ponders whether love is defined by first passion, lifelong devotion, memory, sacrifice, or the person who walked beside you through the ordinary years, you will laugh out loud, and maybe cry.  It is heartwarming because it treats eternity not as an escape from life, but as a way of asking what — and whom — we truly loved while we were alive
